Organizers of The Houston Classic Motorcar Weekend are gearing up for one of the state's biggest celebrations of vintage motoring and getting set to open their doors to some of the world's fastest cars and stars. Visitors to this years event, which runs from May 2-4, can look forward to a spectacular gathering of over 200 rare and exotic classic motorcars, sports cars, and racers, all assembled in the glorious lakeside setting of La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa in Montgomery, Texas. The Houston Classic Motorcar Weekend is a chance to experience two great events in one unforgettable weekend. Worldwide Auctioneers' 13th annual catalogue sale, The Houston Classic Auction, is on Saturday, May 3, with over 100 of the world's finest and rarest motorcars lining up to go under the auction hammer. The Concours d'Elegance of Texas presented by the Gullo Family Dealerships, opens its doors on Sunday, May 4, a luxury car show that showcases some of the greatest cars on the planet, assembled together from collections around the country to be judged for appearance, originality and provenance.

Remarkable cars attract interesting owners, and consignments to this year's The Houston Classic Auction include a 1955 Porsche 356/1500 S Pre-A Speedster, an early “Pre-A” 356 speedster with certificate of authenticity and Kardex; 1963 Maserati 3500GTi Series I Sebring, a well documented, well optioned and investment grade series I Sebring; 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe, an unrestored original example with only 2,574 miles since new, finished in Riverside Gold Metallic; and a 1967 Porsche 911S SWB Coupe, a solid, first-year example of the iconic short-wheelbase 911S.

There is something for everyone in this year’s auction, including, a 2014 Regio design “World’s Tallest Motorcycle,” over 16’ tall, runs, drives, and steers; whose provenance includes entrance in the Guinness Book of World Records. Or, view and bid on the 1960 Cadillac “Thundertaker” Limousine, featured in Hot Rod magazine, a true one-of-a kind design and showpiece. The Houston Classic Auction starts at 10:45 am, Saturday May 4, with an arial demonstration over the resort’s marina by Conroe’s Lonestar Freedom Flight Formation. Special guests of the Concours ‘d’Elegance of Texas are the Texas Region Rolls-Royce Club Owners, who will be conducting their Spring Meet and join in Concours weekend events. This year’s Concours celebrates 35 different marques, featuring Rolls-Royce and Bentley marques. Sunday, Sunday, May 4 Concours show field entries include, 1923 Rolls-Royce Springfield Silver Ghost, 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Sedanca Coupe; 1953 Cadillac 60 Special Fleetwood, movie star car, used in, “Driving Miss Daisy” and, “The Godfather.’

Also to be featured include a1998 Bentley Azure DHC, one of 68 made in 1988, and first place winner in the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club National; 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Flying Spur, and a 1990 Ferrari Testarossa.

This year’s Concours d’Elegance has expanded to include a Friday afternoon charity golf tournament and a new workshop for youth in in Montgomery and Conroe. “The “Next Gen” Education Summit – Using the Automobile to Inspire Students, Show Them Opportunity, and Teach them Growth,” will be conducted Friday, May 2, from 10am to 2pm, at La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa’s Europa Amphitheatre. The workshop, includes local high school students as well as at risk youth and school administrators, is sponsored by La Torretta Lake Resort & Spa, and Worldwide Auctioneers.

The Workshop, coordinated by Senator Dennis Kruse, of Indiana, a national leader in education development, will be panelist moderator of workshops will include:
  • Showing opportunity - Students will learn about art and design and how to judge motorcars on styling, design, correctness and originality from experts in the field
  • Learning about Opportunities in Preservation, Maintenance and Restoration,
  • Hands on teaching the students how they can potentially grow including mechanical, sheet metal, attention to detail, operations and history

Saturday evening, May 3 will include the Cowboys & cars Strolling Charity Dinner and dance poolside at La Torretta and include a silent and live auction and dancing to the music of Southern Light. The event is open to the public.
